In today's computer world, cooling solutions and keeping the computer at a lower temperature are matters of great concern. That's because CPUs and graphical cards tend to become extremely hot, while being more and more advanced. This goes even for modern motherboards. For all these components, efficient cooling solutions must be used, otherwise their functionality can be jeopardized. But finding the right cooling solutions for a computer is no easy task and that's why the temperature of all the components that generate serious heat should be continuously monitored. Fortunately, most modern processors, graphical cards and even hard disks include temperature sensors. So the only problem left is to find the right software that can access these sensors.

Argus Monitor is one of these programs. This simple Windows application allows the user to monitor the temperature of almost any computer hardware, including the processor, graphical card, hard disk and motherboard. When the program is run, it automatically starts the monitoring process and displays the temperature evolution in a simple chart. This will allow the user to quickly see how efficient a cooling solution is when stressing a hardware component. Besides monitoring the temperature for various devices, Argus Monitor can also display the SMART information of a hard disk. Most modern hard disks have this feature, which can predict possible future errors and allows the user to back up his data in time, before it is too late.

Furthermore, the program can also display the speed of the CPU in real-time, for making sure that the real speed is the same with the one stated by the producer of the processor. Argus Monitor is compatible with most processor types, even with the newest quad core CPUs. Besides monitoring components, Argus Monitor also includes some extra features. One of them is the possibility to benchmark the hard disk, for measuring reading and writing speeds. There is also a feature for displaying complete information about a hard disk.

Pros

It can monitor almost any computer hardware device, by accessing the temperature sensors included in them. Besides that, it can display the current temperature as a chart or as a value, in the system tray. Furthermore, it allows testing the reading and writing speeds of any hard disk. Moreover, it can access and display the values provided by the SMART feature of any hard disk.

Cons

The program cannot work if the hardware components don't have a temperature sensor built into them. Argus Monitor is a simple and useful application for monitoring the temperature of almost any hardware device, making sure that it's not overheating.
